John Dickson, General Manager of Crowne Plaza Geelong.
The new general manager of Geelong’s largest hotel revealed that the recruitment will recruit most of the housing jobs before the first paid guests arrive.
Geelong’s 200 Crowne Plaza Geelong is a key component of the Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre, which is under construction on the beachfront.
Industry experienced John Dickson has been appointed general manager of Crowne Plaza Geelong and has played a role ahead of the expected opening early next year.

Mr. Dickson said that once the pre-opening team was recruited and placed through its paces, the first paid guest date was not yet planned to welcome the date, but revealed that the hotel will open at the conference center.
“We will hand over the hotel from the builder to us by the end of the year, and we will start coordinating the installation of furniture, accessories and equipment and all the operating supplies we show the hotel to standard, so we can be open at any time,” Dixon said.
“It sounds easy, but I can tell you that it can be detailed from the knife and fork on the dining room and sheets and for the room and everything in between.

“In January, we will have staff trials under normal hotel conditions and will test everything to make sure everything works.”
Karen Jackson, head of sales and marketing, was Mr. Dickson’s first appointment, and recruitment has been opened for HR and Finance Managers.
“Over the next three to four months, the management team will be joining, and then by the end of the year, we already have some assistants and supervisors to join, and then we will also recruit the whole family in December,” he said.
“We will be over 90 people before the opening and then we will train them in the new year.”
Among the crowds to be recruited will be sommeliers who will oversee the selection of wines that will feature producers of Geelong, Bellalin Peninsula and Surf Coast, and bartenders at Sky Bar on the 10th floor of the hotel.

“The sky bar will be a unique aspect of the hotel. It will be the 90-seat cocktail bar on the 10th floor of the hotel, overlooking Corio Bay.”
The listing bar and lounge will have their own kitchen available before and after dinner and offer features.
“It would be a great asset for the hotel and our guests, but for the locals it would obviously bring amazing views.”
The first-class all-day Italian trattoria will include a 100-seat restaurant and a 60-seat bar with a wooden pizza oven.
The $120 million hotel is fully funded by the Plenary Group and runs the Crowne Plaza brand by IHG Hotels and Resorts.
The development is part of the $250 million investment by the Plenary Conference Center in related retail, commercial and mixed-use spaces.
