Trump threatens additional tariffs on national “alliance” and “anti-US “BRICS”

President Trump has threatened to impose 10% tariffs on countries that “stay consistent” with those of developing countries’ land groups.

“Any country that is consistent with the anti-US policies of the BRICS countries will receive an additional 10% tariff. This policy is no exception. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump wrote in a social post on Sunday night.

The threat comes after Sunday’s declaration condemning the rise in U.S. tariffs and strikes against Iran – all without mentioning Trump’s name.

The group’s statement puts out tariffs of “serious concern”, saying they are “inconsistent with WTO (World Trade Organization) rules” and threatens to “reduce global trade, undermine global supply chains and introduce uncertainty”.

The group also criticized NATO’s decision to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP by 2035, due to Trump’s insistence that Europe will bear more of the alliance’s defense burden.

The BRICS was founded by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, but last year the organization expanded to include Indonesia, Iran, Egypt, Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates.

Brazil, who hosted this two-day summit, tried to avoid more controversial issues to avoid becoming a target for higher taxes. Trump threatens to impose 100% tariffs on the group if they do anything to undermine the dollar.

Trump’s 90-day pause on his full reciprocity tariffs expires on July 9. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that if the country does not reach a trade deal with us as soon as possible, higher tariff rates will be imposed on August 1.
