President Trump said his administration will issue an autism announcement Monday after a Wall Street Journal report on Monday, which recommended that officials release information linking Tylenol to children’s condition.
“We will declare autism on Monday,” Trump said in a speech by President George Washington for Mount Vernon, the historic residence of the American Foundation Academy.
He added: “I think it will be a very important announcement. I think it will be one of the most important things we are going to do.”
Trump did not provide any further details about what to announce.
Trump also said at the event that he will present the Presidential Medal of Freedom to the Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson next week.
Trump, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Secretary of Health and Human Services.
“So, 30 years ago, we heard about the number of about 200,000, and 1 of them had 100,000 people,” Trump, the then-President-elect, told reporters at a December press conference.
He added: “Now I hear one in 100 numbers. So something went wrong. Something went wrong. We’ll understand that.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced last Thursday that the agency will provide a study on the idea that vaccines cause autism.
The study comes as multiple CDC officials resigned from the agency, citing efforts by Kennedy and others to change the vaccine schedule for older children, pregnant women and senior adults in schools.
During Trump’s Saturday speech, he encountered a wide range of topics, including the possibility of a third term, and mentioned that he received a call from actor Tom Cruise.
Cruise last month rejected the president’s proposal, demanding that he award him the prestigious Kennedy Center Award after the Trump administration canceled scheduled shows after it took over the venue.
