Trump fires Congress librarian

President Donald Trump fired Congress librarian Cara Hayden on Thursday, a source familiar with the matter confirmed to Hill.

Hayden was the first woman to become the director of the Library of Congress and the first African American.

A library spokesman told Shan in an email, “Tonight, the White House informed Congress librarian Carla Hayden that she had removed her stance.”

Democrats in Congress condemned the administration’s decision.

“During his tenure, Dr. Hayden brought the Library of Congress to the people and adopted an initiative to enter rural communities and made it accessible to all Americans, in person and online,” Senator Martin Heinrich (DN.M.) said in a statement Thursday.

“Although President Trump wants to ban books and tell Americans what to read – or not to read at all, Dr. Hayden is committed to reading and pursuing knowledge to everyone,” the Democratic senator added. “Just like Dr. Hayden.”

In the press release, Heinrich also shared a copy of the email received by Heinden at 6:56 p.m., informing her of the termination.

“Cara, on behalf of President Donald J. Trump, I write to you that your position as a librarian of Congress was immediately terminated. Thank you for your service,”

Hayden, who was confirmed to lead the world’s largest library in 2016, was scrutinized by the conservative nonprofit American Accountability Foundation (AAF), asking her to remove her.

AAF President Tom Jones told the Daily Mail that the president and his team did an admirable and eager job to clean up the deep state liberals of the federal government. It’s time to show the door to Carla Hayden and Shira Perlmutter and return the first agenda to the U.S. intellectual property regulations. ”

Hayden, nominated by former President Obama, confirmed in 2016 by 74-18 that her 10-year term will expire next year.
