Thousands of protesters are expected to gather nationwide on Thursday to oppose Trump’s administration’s policies, just days after President Trump marked the White House 100 days later.
Those planning to attend the rally believe Trump’s actions hurt the working class in the United States, citing mass layoffs within the federal workforce and reduced spending by the government’s efficiency department and its chief adviser billionaire Tech Billionaire Elon Musk.
The political organization 50501, which is responsible for several other national demonstrations, is helping to coordinate the May 1 event in Arizona, Oregon, New York, South Dakota and other states.
“Musk, Trump and their companions are trying to create a competition – wages, interests, dignity itself,” the organization wrote in a statement shared on its website. “They want to eliminate labor rights, break our unions, and silent immigration voices.”
“We are uniting on this day,” it continues. “It’s a war against workers and we are not going to back down. We are taking power back from corporate elites and we are not being intimidated by Trump, Musk or their billionaire supporters.”
Each rally has a different focus, some promote the Tesla evacuation campaign to encourage people to get out of Musk’s electric car company, while others aim to protect schools amid the threats of the White House as the White House threats to funding for diversity, equity and integration (DEI) programs, or to support workers’ labor force to support workers’ workers in support of the Trump workers.
“We will build a world where every family has housing, health care, fair wages, union protection and security – regardless of race, postal code or immigration status.”
The demonstrations were inspired by the May 1971 protests in Washington, D.C., where more than 12,000 people gathered to oppose the Vietnam War. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, civil disobedience efforts lasted for three days and were known for leading to the largest mass arrests in U.S. history.
