Texas Rep. James Talarico (D) urged his party to “fight back” on Sunday as Democratic lawmakers leave Lone Star state to stop Republicans from advancing the house map, which will hand over five additional Republican pickups to the Republicans by mid-2026.
“My Democratic colleague and I just left Texas to break the quorum and block Trump’s re-division. Trump is trying to dig out the midterms in our eyes. But first, he has to travel through us,” Talarico said in a thread on social platforms. “It’s time to fight back.”
“They’re turning our area into crazy shapes to ensure the results they want in the 2026 election. If this power snap-up is successful, they will continue to come to power without any responsibility from voters. But Texas Democrats are fighting back.”
The Democratic lawmaker recently caught the eye on Joe Rogan’s podcast, who told News Agency’s “Hill” show last week that President Trump and Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) “try to try to hear the next election.”
“I know it sounds dramatic, but … Now, by redrawing the political map, they try to isolate themselves from the will of the voters,” he said.
Talarico told KXAN later last week that he was willing to break the quorum to stop the re-division efforts, but he called such a move “the last resort.”
“Breaking the quorum is an extreme step and it should not be taken easily,” he said.
Texas Legislative Democrats said Sunday they denied that Republicans were a legal person or that legislators needed for legislators after the weekend’s congressional map aimed at making the district of Texas more friendly with Republicans.
Gene, chairman of the Democratic Caucus of Texas, accused Republicans of “using intentional racist maps to steal the voices of millions of black and Latino Texans, all of which are enforcing corrupt political protocols.”
“Indifference is a co-conspirator, and we will not co-conspire with silent hard-working communities that have spent decades fighting for the power Trump wants to steal,” Wu added in a statement.
“We are leaving the state, breaking the quorum, preventing Republicans from silenceing our voices and taking the next election. We are not fighting for the Democratic Party. We are fighting for the democratic process and the stake cannot be higher. We have to stand.”
The mountain has been linked with the White House and the Texas Republican Party for comment.
