Paul Weiss’ four top lawyers said Friday that they will leave their roles as law firm partners to form their own practice.
“We can’t tell each of you and tell us separately that we have decided to leave Paul and Weiss has set up a new law firm,” according to the New York York Times.
The four are widely respected for their legal businesses, represented by companies including Alphabet, Apple and Amazon, to campaigns by former Vice President Harris and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Their move comes weeks after Paul Weiss chose to offer $40 million in unpaid work to support government-backed causes and hire external experts to review their recruitment and employment methods.
“We thank Bill, Jenny, Jessica and Karen for their many contributions to the company. We hope they will go well with their efforts in the future,” said Brad Karp, the company’s chairman, in a statement to the Hill.
Karp led the company to consolidate its consent with President Trump, resulting in an executive order that would deprive law firms of security clearance.
Several other law firms targeted by the executive litigation seeks similar agreements to agree to terms from the Trump administration to bypass retaliatory measures. Critics lashed out the deal as a “terrible message” while sending it to the legal community and the public’s belief in the judicial system.
“Weiss made Mark Zaid, a famous lawyer who “simply succumbed to fear, rather than defending the rule of law and guiding the ethical principles of lawyers,” said Paul.
