A “super creepy” haunted house sold to a new family for $3.1 million in a haunted house in a Richlist Aus suburb, whose big boss mysteriously abandons it.

It was once believed that the sprawling house at 31 Perrot Street, Paddington, was once thought to have been used as a war hospital and won a crowd of 150 people on Saturday at midday sales.

More than 30 years ago, the house was mysteriously abandoned but left to the family who sold the house.


Ray White Paddington Agent Max Hadgelias said the day had attracted 15 registered bidders after the auction began.

“It was very decisive, relatively fast,” he said. “We had a very strong opening bid, and then a bunch of bids – and then it was on the market and sold out very quickly.”

Many registered bidders do not have time to bid, with the opening bidder rate of $2.75 million.

A series of fast, crazy bids raise the price of the home to $3 million, with a median of $1.925 million.

After about twelve bids, the home finally sold for $3.1 million.

About 150 people gathered at the moody noon auction, and 15 registered bidders competed for the house.


The home has been bid for about 12 new local families, hoping to be restored.


“It’s faster than some, but we’ve achieved good results,” Mr Hadgelias said. “(The vendor) is happy to see it go to other people – it’s been in their families for a long time and they’re happy to see others leave their mark on it.”

As the final price exceeded the family’s expectations, the house went to a new local home, which Mr. Hardjelias said would be the owner.

“My understanding is that they want to restore the beautiful old house,” he said.

The sprawling house is officially listed as a two-bedroom home, more than this is a sprawling house that spans an old Queensland building and brick extensions with separate apartments, with its roof covered with plants – adding to the spooky appeal.

Locals flock to the property, now with weeds on the roof, longing to see what many call the “old haunted house.”

Architectural historian Marianne Taylor brings a stunning first look to her House Detective Series on YouTube: “It’s full of antiques and furniture, toys… there’s an old toilet, an old laundry, an old laundry and some super creepy stuff on these stairs.”

“There’s nobody lives here for over 30 years, and when they left, they just walked out and left everything behind. The tables are still fixed and there’s still food in the cupboards, which is very incredible.”

She told Courier that her preliminary research found that the house dates back to 1912.

“It seems to indicate that the Robertsons have owned the land since 1913, and the house may have been built around 1914 to 1915. It is so confusing because the back and front of the house seem to have changed at different times. But it may have been earlier than 1912.”

Ms Taylor said the property is still in the hands of the same family. “They still own it, that home. The brick extension was added in the 1940s, and that’s why I think the cellar might be the air raid refuge” – through the bottom of the dark stairwell, the “super creepy” area.

But she added that the house itself is excellent for Brisbane’s history.

“This is a great example of federal-era architecture. It’s a very unusual design. It’s covered by traditional building covers, so it should theoretically be impossible to demolish.”

The home is located in the corner block of the elevated Paddington site.

It is listed on realestate.com.au as “one of the people who talk about houses the most” – many wonder how to have a 30-year vacancy in such an elite location, especially in the housing crisis.

“The property’s history shows that it’s been in the same family for 100 years and was once used as a hospital,” Ray White agent George and Max Hadgelias said in the list.

“The home has not been occupied since the 1990s and will require significant work to bring it to a comfortable standard of living.”

Property records show that the current owner is Mrs. Dawn Robertson in the Australian capital region.
