Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) said Monday that the House president’s “big and beautiful bill” could be “challenged.”
“I do think you’re going to have some challenges with the housing side. We can only lose three votes,” Steube told Newsnation’s Blake Burman on The Hill.
“You have 218 times to reach, and if we lose four bills of dead people, we can only lose three, and you have something that people don’t like here and you have something that conservatives don’t like here. So it’s definitely a challenge.”
Moderate Republicans and tough conservatives in the House recently expressed opposition to the Senate’s “big and beautiful bill” just days before the legislation was considered in the basement.
Democrats have expressed strong disgust for the bill, which Rep. Pramila Jayapal (d-wash.) called it the “Big Bad Betrayal Act” and Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-fla.) said was “Evil Act.”
“If Republicans pass this big terrible betrayal bill, they literally ensure more poor Americans will die so billionaires and giant corporations can cut taxes,” Jayapal said in an article on social platform X on Monday.
Former Trump ally Ally Elon Musk said on Monday that he would support the main challenger for any Republican who supports Trump’s “big and beautiful Bill.”
“Every member of Congress who is committed to reducing government spending and then immediately vote for the biggest debt increase in history should be ashamed!” Musk said on X.
