House Republicans and the White House are seeking a shared foundation with the Liberty Caucus as leaders hope to bring the tax and spending bill to sometime Wednesday.

Members of the Freedom Caucus appeared optimistic notes from the meeting Wednesday night and signaled to the deal.

White House and Republican leaders have also made progress in negotiations with Blue State Republicans, ensuring a deal to increase state and local tax (salt) deductions at another ideological end of the meeting. Agree also reached to raise the new Medicaid job requirements to 2026.

Meanwhile, at the White House, President Trump greeted South African President Cyril Ramaphosa about a week after the United States welcomed a group of South Africans, who were the Dutch as refugees.

Trump defended the administration’s Africa refugee resettlement program, saying he would discuss “genocide” with Ramaphosa at a private meeting. He then surprised Ramaphosa with a videotape claiming to support the government’s claims of white farmers who were persecuted in South Africa. The two leaders were going to have lunch and then held a bilateral meeting.

House Democrats lost members as the day began: Rep. Gerry Connolly, of Virginia, died Wednesday morning after a brief cancer ended. He is 75 years old.
