President Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth headed to Quantico, Virginia this morning to address military leaders at a global outpost at an unprecedented gathering.
Hegseth often emphasized the priority of the “warrior spirit” in the Pentagon, and the sudden order of generals and admirals to attend the event last week quickly raised questions about what to discuss. Trump said over the weekend that he would also participate.
However, the mysterious meeting revolves around an unannounced agenda.
There was no agreement on Monday that could open the government and funds would expire late Tuesday, starting from midnight, with the possibility of closings growing.
But Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said there is a rift between Trump and Republican leaders in Congress on whether to use a short-term government funding bill to prevent a surge in health insurance premiums next year, as enhanced subsidies will be received by the end of this year.
Democrats demanded an expansion of enhanced health insurance subsidies, as well as other health care regulations, in exchange for their votes to keep the government open.
