Two big stories are flooding as the Senate prepares for a government shutdown later today, and later Sunday, as a federal judge, President Trump temporarily stopped efforts to send any National Guard to Oregon.
The order – the second order of the next day, following the promises of Oregon leaders, fight against the mobilization of troops to calm down what Trump calls the city in the “siege.”
Texas National Guard members have also been authorized to travel to Oregon and Illinois, where Gov. JB Pritzker (D) broke the news Sunday night. Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) told Pritzker late Sunday, as Abbott confirmed his authorization, to protect federal personnel or “get out of the situation.” Pritzker called the mobilization a “invasion.”
On the sixth day of the government’s closure, the Senate is expected to vote on two funding bills that could reopen operations, although that seems unlikely.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-la.) reiterated to reporters Monday morning that the shutdown was in the hands of the Senate, saying “This is Chuck Schumer’s decision, referring to the Democratic leader of the New York Senate.
In Washington, Trump has no public activities.
