Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) said in an interview Wednesday that he would block any efforts to arrest Democratic lawmakers in the state who fled Texas and blocked Republican efforts to secure five additional home seats in the midterm elections.

“Our state police protect everyone in Illinois and anyone in Illinois,” Pritzker said during a show-up with Jessica Yellin.

He added: “So, whether it’s a federal agent coming to Illinois from Illinois or a state Ranger from Texas, you’re basically unpopular if you don’t violate federal law and our state legislators (Texas state legislators) can’t arrest our state legislators.”

Sen. John Coney (R-Texas) urged FBI Director Kash Patel in a letter this week to help Democrats send Democrats back to the Lone Star state.

President Trump said Tuesday that federal agencies “may have to” participate, later adding that the Republicans were “righted” to obtain additional housing seats.

“We should have more seats in California. It’s all out. We have a chance to get five seats in Texas. We have a really good governor, we have good people in Texas.”

He added: “I won Texas. You probably know, I got the highest vote in Texas history and we have the right to get five more seats.”

But Pritzker argued Wednesday that any effort to force Democratic lawmakers to return was illegal.

“Look, we follow the law, and the law is what I just made. But, as you know, Donald Trump doesn’t follow the law. Indeed, he is a convicted felon,” Pritzker told Yellin.

He added: “In Texas, they are not following the law, either. They are passing the Voting Rights Act to thwart the Constitution and pose a threat that cannot be enforced. Of course, John Cornyn is fighting Ken Paxton in the U.S. Senate seat; therefore, they are fighting, fighting for whom more difficult on the subject.”
