Former Pence said Sunday that the United States “needs to be prepared” to help Israel destroy Iran’s nuclear program.
Pence said to CNN’s statement about “Union State”: “If Israel needs our help to ensure the Iranian nuclear program is destroyed once and for all, then the United States of America needs to be prepared because it – it is to protect our most cherished allies.”
Israel bombed Iran on Thursday overnight, with its largest military action ever against its common Middle East rival and urged President Trump to reach a nuclear deal with Iran.
The United States tried to quickly distance the strike against critical nuclear facilities and killed Iran’s top military leaders. But Trump administration officials reportedly planned ahead of the strike.
Later, Iran launched numerous drones to retaliate after Israel’s military strike. On Sunday, the conflict stretched to the third day.
“They have been making intercontinental ballistic missiles that could reach the United States,” Pence told Iran on Sunday.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday that the United States did not participate in the Israeli strike in Iran.
“Tonight, Israel has taken unilateral action against Iran. We are not involved in the strike against Iran, and our priority is to protect the U.S. military in the region,” Rubio said through a statement.
