Senator Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) said President Trump’s recent executive actions “should put us on the bones” and claimed his “authoritarian impulses” were a danger to American democracy.
“I think it’s obvious. We’ve never seen a president trying to wield the federal government to smash his critics and political opponents. It’s new in American history, and in my opinion, it’s non-American. It should make us about bones, regardless of our policy preferences, no matter our policy preferences,” Ossoff interviewed the Associated Press (AP) (Saturday).
Ossoff, who runs for reelection on the battlefield, and Trump won the 2024 presidential election, said he reminded his Republican colleagues, conservative friends and Georgia supporters that “one day” Democrats will occupy the Oval Office and “shoes will be on the other foot.”
“It’s about checks and balances. It’s about whether the executive branch is designed by our constitution and wise lawmakers can make their partisans to protect the public interest,” the Georgia senator told the Associated Press.
The 38-year-old senator argued in an interview that the best way Democrats can take now is that they are minorities in both Congress, just to inform voters that the government’s policies do not match their interests.
“When I saw the president trying to put forward a legislative agenda, it was essentially cutting important healthcare programs that fund Georgia hospitals, for example, in Georgia, Medicaid covers 40% of all children, Medicaid covers 50% of all births, Medicaid accounts for all Medicaid, Medicaid accounts for 70% of older people and 70% of households in nurseries.”
“The U.S. president wants to pay Medicaid for tax cuts to the wealthiest people in the country. This is not a popular program anywhere in Georgia. Close the Social Security Office, cover up the Social Security Agency and the VA, is not welcome anywhere in Georgia.” “So, part of my work now is here to inform the public that these policies are not in the interests of our state and to oppose them.”
Ossoff has previously criticized the Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for the worker’s firing (CDC) told voters at an event on Friday that he “strongly” agreed to the impeachment of Trump, but added that the push is unlikely to gain attention in Republican-controlled homes.
According to multiple stores, “When the current U.S. president is selling access to something that pays him directly. This will undoubtedly increase to the level of crimes for improper each.”
The National Republican Senate Republican campaign department said Friday that Ossoff’s advice was “disgusting”, adding that Democrats hoped to “overturn the will of Georgia voters who just elected President Trump.”
