Rep. Jerry Nadler (DN.Y.) strongly criticized the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for entering its district office and briefly detained one of his employees last week, calling the incident “very disturbing.”

In an episode Wednesday, Gothamists first reported and captured in a video, DHS officials were seen as crying aides. Another DHS official tried to enter part of Nadler’s office, while a second employee stood at the door, briefly blocking the agent from entering.

The federal agent told the second employee that she “hidden a thug in the office” and denied her request to view the arrest warrant, saying he didn’t need her if she didn’t.

Nadler said in a statement that no arrests “a case was quickly eliminated,” but added: “I was shocked by the aggressive and intense tactics that DHS hired in New York City and across the country.”

“President Trump and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are sowing the intimidation tactics of citizens and non-citizens in a reckless and dangerous way.

“The decision to enter the Congressional Office and detain a staff member shows that disregarding the proper legal boundaries are disturbing,” he added. “If this can happen among members of the Congressional Office, then anyone can happen – it is happening.”

Nadler called on the Trump administration to “stop using these dangerous strategies and abandon the use of accelerated evacuation procedures, a process that denies due process for immigrants and citizens.”

In a statement to the Hill, senior DHS officials said that Department of Homeland Security Federal Protection Agency (FPS) officials “responded to the information that protesters were present” in Nadler’s Manhattan office and went to the office because they “care about the safety of federal employees in the office” and wanted to “ensure the safety and well-being of those people.”

“Once arriving, the officers were granted entry and met four people. The officials identified themselves and explained their intention to conduct security checks, but one person verbally confronted and physically blocked access to the office.”

“The officers subsequently detained the individual in the corridor with the aim of completing a security check. None of this was released from further incidents.”

The mountain stretches towards the White House.
