The Diggers Rest’s lifestyle estate at 35 Lance Rd was sold for $1.92 million, the highest report in Melbourne at the time.
A Melbourne family who didn’t even inspect the house stole the keys to the digger’s rest estate at auction.
The family fell in love with it on the spot, and the dual residence was acquired for $1.92 million.
The rare lifestyle compound on Lance Rd is the city’s reportedly top sale on weekends, with four family groups bidding in front of a dynamic crowd before the property passed $1.85 million and quickly negotiated through a $1.92 million deal.
The property offers two completely separate homes, landscaped gardens with views of the CBD, price guides ranging from $1.75 million to $1.95 million and proves the magnets for buyers looking for space, flexibility and long-term upside.

Ray White Sunbury director Aaron Hill said it was one of the most unique products he has so close to Melbourne.
“You’re only 15 minutes to the airport, about 30 minutes (a few minutes) from Melbourne CBD, but you have more than 6 hectares of residence, a second residence and space for the entire large family,” Mr Hill said.
“It’s rare to see so much land and accommodation with urban access.”
The Diggers Rest property is set to six hectares and includes two houses, multiple garages and sheds, as well as views of the Melbourne skyline.
The gourmet kitchen in the main residence overlooks the spacious living area and is a key painting card for family buyers.
Mr Hill said the winning buyer (who had not inspected the house before the auction) made a final bid and signed a contract without announcing after a brief negotiation.
“It’s really love at first sight,” he said.
“They have a larger rural property further apart and want to be closer to the city. This gives them that balance.”
The beautifully-passed bathroom adds a luxurious appeal to the main home, which blends with the country charm.
The second residence is a completely separate three-bedroom cottage currently a tenant and is perfect for multi-generational living or rental income.
The main residence includes four bedrooms, a main retreat, an open fireplace, and an upstairs apartment with its own kitchen and living space.
The second home is a three-bedroom cabin currently a tenant that offers rental income, Airbnb potential or additional family accommodation.
All four bidders are family, with the dual-living setting adding extra appeal to multi-generation buyers.
Architecturally designed and raised to capture the landscape, the main residence offers a city-fronted country just 30 minutes from the Melbourne CBD.
The lounge in the main family features an open fireplace, which is part of the home’s character design.
Ray White Sunbury directors said the sale price also reflects the appetite of strong buyers in Melbourne’s western growth corridor, where land holdings are larger.
“On the same weekend, we held an auction of five bidders in Sunbury,” Mr Hill said.
“The entire corridor is thriving. It’s still underrated compared to the suburbs that are the same distance to the east, but people are waking up.”
The kitchen in the second house is part of an open layout that appeals to large or independent families.
The second residence offers rare dual occupancy potential in a rural setting close to Melbourne CBD with its own lounge and living space.
Mr Hill said that while the property has no rezoning yet, the location has long-term segmentation potential.
“It’s a classic buying opportunity,” he said.
“The developer has already acquired similar land nearby.
“In ten years, this could be a very wise investment.”
