Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said Monday that the immigration raid in her city caused “chaos” the night before.
“Well, I just have to say, if you went back to the time and then went Friday, we wouldn’t have had this disease last night if there was no immigration raid here.”
She added: “I will tell you that it is peaceful now, but we don’t know where and when the next raid will take place.”
Trump deployed 2,000 National Guard members to the Los Angeles area in protests Saturday against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the operation was due to the recent attacks on “violent mobs” attacked by “federal law enforcement officers engaged in basic expulsion operations.”
“After this violence, California’s ruthless Democratic leaders have completely waived their responsibility to protect their citizens,” Levitt said.
The U.S. military will temporarily move 700 Marines to Los Angeles, further adding military presence to the city, the U.S. Northern Command announced on Monday.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and Vice President Vance cheated on social media on Monday over the situation in the Los Angeles area.
The back and forth announcement between the governor and the vice president was from Newsom to respond to President Trump’s comments, who said he would support the arrest of the governor of Golden State.
“The U.S. president is just calling for the arrest of an incumbent governor. It’s a day I hope I will never see in the U.S. I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or a Republican, it’s a line we can’t cross as a country – it’s taken, it’s a step towards authoritarianism.”
Vance responded to Newsom on X for nearly two hours and told the governor to “do your job.”
The mountain has been exposed to ice, and the White House commented.
