Los Angeles mayor says cities “do not allow fear as a weapon”

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said Wednesday that her city “does not allow fear to be used as a weapon” against its residents.

“Los Angeles does not allow fear to be used as a weapon to make our city powerful,” Bass said in an article on social platform X.

She added: “My government is working with community organizations, legal advocates and local leaders to ensure that every resident knows their rights and receives the support they need. The city is united.”

Bass said the attack was a “political retribution” against residents of major democratic cities.

She added: “This fear can paralyze the community. We’ve seen it before: Kids are too afraid to go to school, families tear apart without warning. Let’s not pretend it’s about public safety. It’s political retribution – flat and simple.”

President Trump’s border Tsar Tom Homan said the Los Angeles protests made the ice raid even more “difficulty” and “dangerous” on Tuesday.

“Like we are a third world country, people think it’s OK to threaten the lives and safety of federal law enforcement officers and their families,” Homan said during a appearance on NBC Nightly News.

On Monday, Bass said the immigration raid in her city caused “chaos” the night before.

“Well, I just have to say, if you went back to the time and then went Friday, we wouldn’t have had this disease last night if there was no immigration raid here.”

She added: “I will tell you that it is peaceful now, but we don’t know where and when the next raid will take place.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) chased President Trump late Tuesday in a video speech after the Trump administration deployed thousands of National Guard soldiers and Marines to conquer immigration protests.

Newsom said that while California is no stranger to immigration enforcement, the government is not focused on immigrants living in the country with illegal criminal records or deportation orders, “whether it is targeted at diligent immigrant families, regardless of their root cause or risk.”
