Khanna criticizes Trump’s agreement to place AI data centers in Dubai: “What about the United States first”?

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) criticized the Trump administration’s agreement with the United Arab Emirates to establish large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) data centers in Dubai, indicating that the president should try to build a hub on U.S. land.

In an interview with ABC News on “This Week”, Silicon Valley MPs question whether the UAE is in line with the president’s “America First” philosophy.

When asked about the president’s first trip to the region, I didn’t like the largest AI center research center, which will be in Dubai. ”

“I mean, ‘What’s wrong with the United States first?’” he continued. “Why don’t we put this center in Pennsylvania or Ohio? Especially in western Pennsylvania, it’s a place that wants to get a lot of data centers, which will create a lot of work.”

“Now, I’m all about collaborating and selling more to allies in the Middle East, but we should focus on delivering new technical work in the United States,” Khanna added.

The Commerce Department announced Thursday that the AI ​​campus will have 5 GW of capacity during Trump’s visit to the UAE, which will eventually span 10 square miles.

Qasr al Watan’s data centers will become a regional platform for advanced standards in the United States, and these technology companies are technology companies that provide cloud computing and data management services. The Commerce Department said the companies will be able to provide low-delay services to nearly half of the global population living within 2,000 miles of the UAE.

“In the UAE, U.S. companies will operate data centers and provide U.S.-managed cloud services throughout the region,” Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said in a statement Thursday. “By extending the world’s leading U.S. tech stack to a key strategic partner in the region, this agreement is an important milestone in realizing President Trump’s vision for our AI dominance.”
