Rep. Jimmy Patronis (R-FLA.) said the hatred between President Trump and Elon Musk will not last long, noting that the Republican Party and the president’s allies are part of a “large family.”
Musk has criticized the president’s impact on the state’s debt in recent days, and the tech billionaire said it was a job he did at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The fight was a fever this week, with two exchanging harsh words on social media.
But as the quarrel continues, Patronis says he believes the two will reconcile soon.
“I don’t know how many times I’ve seen Donald Trump throw (Senator) Lindsey Graham ((rs.c.)) walk out of the street and say that guy is crazy. But then you know they’re playing golf together the next week. It’s no different.
He added: “Trump knows that sometimes you’ll be with those people you trust, like, with friends you’re with.
The Florida lawmaker also poured cold water on Musk’s recent proposal for a third-party challenge.
“Elon Musk will not create a new party,” he told the news agency.
Musk made the “American Party” a potential new political faction after a poll was released Friday so that his followers could weigh on the social media platform X the day before.
“I thank Elon Musk for everything he did to Doge. He brought everything to what we did in Congress. But at the end of the day, I saw that the only friends I made in Washington, D.C. (probably) could be my wife and my children,” Patronis said.
“The friends I care about are friends from Congress District 1 … they elected Donald Trump,” he added. “They didn’t elect Elon Musk.”
