The Virginia Police Department investigated the death of former U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber, saying it was likely due to natural reasons.
“Although investigations into the death of Ms. Jessica Aber are currently underway, detectives have found no evidence that her death was caused by anything other than natural causes,” the Alexandria Police Department, Virginia, said in a statement Tuesday.
Aber, a former lawyer in the Eastern District of Virginia, died at her home on the weekend at the age of 43.
Aber has worked in Viriginia’s East District since 2009, and was later nominated as a U.S. lawyer by former President Biden in 2021. She was unanimously confirmed by the Senate and resigned when President Trump took office.
Alexander police said the investigation was underway and the case would remain open until the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office returns to the final ruling in the form of Aberle’s causal and death.
“We urge the public to respect the privacy of Ms. Aberle’s family,” police said.
A friend of Aber’s family told NBC News that police believe she died from long-standing medical problems.
