Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth’s “Single Fool” said Senator Tammy D-ill., a former Black Hawk helicopter pilot and combat veteran.
“How many times does it take for Pete Hegseth to leak confidential intelligence, and then Donald Trump and Republicans know that he is not only a liar, but that he poses a threat to our national security?” Duckworth of the Senate Armed Forces and Foreign Relations Committee said Sunday on X.
“He works every day for another day, and the lives of our troops are threatened by his strange stupidity,” she continued. “He must be embarrassed.”
Duckworth’s statement was released after The New York Times reported on a previously unpublished signal group chat, with Heggs allegedly sharing details of the upcoming military strike in Yemen on March 15.
The group chat reportedly included his wife, Jennifer, who was a former Fox News producer and did not work in the Pentagon. It also includes Heggs’ brother and private lawyers, both working in the Pentagon, but the Times reported: “It is not clear why both need to understand the upcoming military strike against Hotis, Yemen.”
According to Times, four people with chat knowledge, group chats included his wife, “In January, there were about a dozen people in his personal and professional inner circle before he served as defense secretary.”
Hegseth, who had previously been under rigorous scrutiny to share similar details with the highest national security officials, was an unintentional chat that included top editors from the Atlantic.
Sean Parnell, the Pentagon chief spokesman, responded to the Times’ report on social media posts, saying: “One day, another old story – back from the dead.”
He added: “No matter they try to write a story, there is no confidential information in any signal chat.”
The White House said on Monday that President Trump strongly supported Heggs.
Duckworth asked to resign after confirming and being called “f — in liar” by Hegseth and asked him to resign after he issued a bombshell report on the Atlantic about the signaling team chatting with the top national security officials.
“Pete Hegseth is a liar. It’s such a clear classified information that reckless leaked the pilot who could kill us. He needs to throw away our shame immediately,” Duckworth said in a statement last month.
“Hegseth and all other officials included in the group’s chat must be investigated independently. If Republicans don’t join us in our responsibility and put the Trump administration in charge, they will accomplice this dangerous crime against our national security.”
