David Plouffe, who served as an adviser to former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’s 2024 presidential election, will join Coinbase’s Global Advisory Committee.
In a notice Thursday, Coinbase said Plov will join former lawmakers, industry leaders and others on the company’s advisory board, appearing to advise on policies promoted in the U.S. and abroad and its role in future elections. Since leaving Harris’ campaign, appointing the council on Plouffe is one of his first roles in cryptocurrency and policy.
“It is important to understand that people who own cryptocurrencies or Stablecoin may not be the most important issue,” Pluff said at Coinbase’s crypto province summit.
“If you’re a politician running for office, the ability to talk to crypto helpers who may be unsure if you want to attend, maybe they haven’t attended before.
Plouffe’s increase in the Common Basic Committee could indicate that the exchange’s efforts continue to maintain political activity in the United States. Since the 2024 election, CEO Brian Armstrong has been in the Trump administration, supporting Congress’s talented Stableken bill before a major vote and meeting with the president one-on-one.
A nonpartisan approach to crypto policy?
Chris Lacivita, Trump’s 2024 election co-run manager, joined the Coinbase Council in January. The committee includes former U.S. lawmakers, including former Senator Kyrsten Sinema and former Senator Pat Toomey.

Trump also addressed attendees at a Coinbase event on Thursday and commented in a message about his future crypto policy, including support for the Genius Act and the Digital Asset Market Structure Act. At the time of publication, neither the Senate nor the House passed any bill, but the Senate is expected to vote on the bill soon.
