Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) said in a recent interview that the Senate-locked “big and beautiful Bill” Medicaid was “a little better” than he expected, but added that he still had “concerns”.
“I’ll notice that I’ve got some information about Medicaid content that I think is a bit better than I originally expected, but I still have concerns,” Roy said on Wednesday on Fox News’s The Will Cain Show.
“I voted against the committee’s rules on the committee because I’m not in a place where I feel I should push the product forward,” the Texas Republican told the host. “I’m still in that place, right? I’m still checking the bill. We got it yesterday.”
Roy said: “I asked every witness to testify on the bill yesterday in the Rules Committee panel, but they haven’t read it.
The Senate passed a Beautiful Act bill on Tuesday after Vice President Vance voted, bringing a huge legislative victory to President Trump.
The Senate bill will mark the biggest Medicaid cut ever. The Congressional Budget Office expects nearly 12 million low-income Americans to lose health insurance by 2034.
The legislation is now in the House of Representatives, with some moderate Republican members expressing concerns about social safety net cuts.
Roy said the Senator had previously expressed concerns about the level of spending in Trump’s “big and beautiful Bills.”
Roy told Cain on Wednesday that he still had “a lot of observation” about the ‘Green New Scam’ subsidies and overall spending levels, so we are working to get through these subsidies to see where we can go from here.”
