Rep. Marjory Taylor Green (Georgia Republican) said Tuesday she was under greater pressure on the petition than any other issue, which demanded a House vote to force the release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein.
“My signature was on that discharge petition, and nothing was putting me under more pressure than this, and I was shocked by it. I couldn’t imagine—I never understood how that could be a problem,” Green told NewsNation’s Blake Burman on The Hill.
“I think when women are raped, especially when they are 14 years old, it’s very black and white,” she added
Georgia delegates are one of only four Republican House members to sign a petition for dismissal that will force a vote on the full release of Epstein’s case archives. Green remains a staunch supporter of the president, but during her second term, she broke with her party several times on Epstein’s archives and foreign policy issues.
She had previously said that she had encountered “a lot of” resistance from the White House because of her support for the discharge petition.
In recent months, the Trump administration has faced strong bipartisan opposition for its handling of documents related to Epstein.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R. Louisiana) said Tuesday that his postponement of the election of Democratic Rep. Adrita Grihalva (Arizona) had nothing to do with her upcoming signature on the discharge petition.
“It’s totally unrelated to that. When everyone comes back, we’ll get her sworn in,” Johnson said in a news conference.
When asked about the time when Grihalva was sworn in, Johnson said: “I think we’ll schedule it any time she wants. It’s not about that.”
“The people of Southern Arizona deserve to be represented and I am ready to start working,” Grihalva said in a post on Monday. “Swear to me now @SpeakerJohnson!”
On Monday, President Trump said he needed to talk to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and investigate the case of former Epstein colleague Ghislaine Maxwell, after the Supreme Court refused to review Epstein’s conviction for sex trafficking from 2021.
