Since taking office in January, Vice President Vance rebooted his Tiktok profile on Monday, posting his first video to popular social platforms.
Vance posted from his personal account that his team plans to use the page to perform daily White House activities and politics updates to followers and will throw out “some sombrero memes here and there.”
“JD Vance is here. Just want you to know that we are restarting the VP’s Tiktok page,” Vance said in the video. “I’ve been a little lazy in recent months. I’m focusing on the job of becoming a vice president, not enough on tiktoks. It’s going to change, so follow.”
“We’re going to update the situation with the White House, the state business. We’re going to update you politically about what’s going on, maybe some sombrero memes here and there, but please follow up and we’re looking forward to making a connection on Tiktok. See you then.”
The video was released in the evening and by the end of the day, the video had more than one million views. Vance’s previous video was released the day before the Nov. 4 election and received 46.9 million views.
After President Trump signed an executive order late last month, he approved a deal to enable popular social media platforms to sign a deal in the U.S. after uncertainty about their fate.
According to the deal, a group of investors, including Oracle and Silver Lake, will acquire a majority stake in the new Tiktok entity. The app’s China-based parent company, BYTEDANCE, will maintain less than 20% stake in compliance with 2024 laws requiring the company to divest or face a U.S. ban.
The agreement was conducted nine months after the law was initially in force. Trump repeatedly delayed the implementation of the measure, hoping to reach a deal to make the app available in the U.S.
