New York City Mayor’s Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani defended his politics in an interview with President Trump on Monday, repeatedly labeling him as a “communist”.

CNN’s Erin Burnett played a clip of Trump calling Mamdani a communist and asked Mamdani directly: “Is that?”

“No. I’m a democratic socialist,” Mandani said. “I said it again and again.”

Mamdani said it reveals some information about the political situation in the United States that Trump is not satisfied with amplifying Mamdani’s true identity with “democratic socialism” and goes on to call him the Communist Party.

“I think it reflects the fact that … although it was enough for Donald Trump in the past, he doesn’t even want to use it now because he knows that my political message is the message of connecting with New Yorkers in the five boroughs. It’s the message of dignity in everybody’s life.”

Mamdani nodded in the recent election polls and suggested that the president is going through a sad phase as he is with the possibility of electing his hometown mayor.

“He’s going through many sad phases, as well as what Donald Trump said,” Mandani said.

“First, denial that this could happen. Now it’s accepted, and despite this, he’s still looking to use all the tools available to help Andrew Cuomo become the city’s next mayor.”

Earlier Monday, Trump repeated his frustration with the mayoral candidate and warned that he “will have problems with Washington in the history of our once great city.”

“Zohran Mamdani, a self-proclaimed New York City communist, is running for mayor, which will prove to be one of the best things our great Republican Party has ever seen,” Trump said in Society of Truth. “He will have problems in Washington in what we once were a big city history.”

“Remember, he needed money from the president I was in order to fulfill all his fake communist promises. He wouldn’t get anything, so what’s the point of voting for him?”
