FEC Vice Chairman, seen as a competitor to Chip Roy Seat, resigns

Federal Election Commission (FEC) Vice Chairman Trey Trainor (R), confirmed that he resigned Thursday when he was following the location of Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas).

Trainor said he is interested in running for Congress in the previous few months. The Washington examiner first reported that Roy played for the Texas Attorney General, his resignation was first reported after he opened his seat in the House.

He said after announcing his resignation: “Even since President Trump appointed me in 2020, despite a longer confirmation process, he said after announcing his resignation. His last day will be October 3.

Trainor has not yet promised a seat for Roy, but he said he is “seriously evaluating the option”.

“At the same time, I’m excited to get back to more of the ‘normal’ life – playing rodeo, middle school football, and having a great time with my family,” he said.

His resignation left only two members of the FEC’s six-member panel, pushing the bodies responsible for overseeing campaign financing away from the quorum.

The FEC has been lacking a quorum since Commissioner Allen Dickerson left in April, leaving the panel with only four required four members to enforce its responsibilities, including financial violations on campaigns.

After the trainers leave, the traditional bipartisan agency will leave two Democratic Commissioners Shana Broussard and Dara Lindenbaum.

According to the first phase of the Political Reform Nonprofit Group, the FEC lost only three quorums before. The first happened in 2008 under the administration of former President George W. Bush. The second and third happened in Trump’s first semesters in 2018 and 2019.

Trainor had previously considered running for the Texas Attorney General himself, but decided to oppose it to prevent the FEC from becoming a “Partisan tool” for Broussard and Lindenbaum.

Officials told Washington examiners that the Trump administration is reviewing possible FEC candidates.
