Democrats joked about deportation in a post on Saturday on his truth social platform, admonishing President Trump on Saturday.
“‘I love the smell of being deported in the morning…’Chicago is about to find out why we call it the Department of War,” the president wrote in his own meme: “chipocalypse now.”
Members of Democrats from California and Illinois condemned the position.
“The U.S. President is deploying troops on U.S. streets and using our troops for political pawns,” California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) wrote in a statement on X.
He continued, “Don’t numb yourself.”
Newsom had a dispute with Trump after the White House’s control of the National National Guard. The president ordered soldiers to go to Los Angeles without the governor’s approval to implement the government’s immigration agenda.
When Trump’s eyes Chicago was taken over by force of federal control, Prairie leaders rejected the president’s card swipe during federal intervention.
Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth, also a veteran of the battle and a retired Army National Guard lieutenant colonel, wrote on X: “Chicago is not your war zone without Donald.”
In response to Trump’s earlier post celebrating deportation, Duckworth described the president’s meme wearing a wide hat as “the worst courage.”
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) is also in trouble.
Johnson wrote on X: “The president’s threat is under the honor of our country, but the reality is that he wants to occupy our cities and break our constitution.”
“We must defend our democracy from this authoritarianism by protecting each other and protecting Chicago from Donald Trump.”
Earlier in the day, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker called the president a “ideas dictator.”
“The U.S. president threatens to fight American cities,” Pritzker wrote on social platform X. “This is not a joke. It’s not normal.”
