The neighborhood returns to 2025, bringing contestants to the picturesque tree-changing town of Daylesford, Victoria. Season 21 has some major changes.
This year, the popular reality renovation program will feature five large teams responsible for brand new buildings, the same floor plan, a midnight curfew and the chance to win a new $10,000 per week budget award.
The new street lineup is creating five homes that cover 346 square meters of living space that form the new Middleton outdoor housing estate at the eastern entrance to the town in the area.
Host Scott Cam returns to his 19th season, with Judges Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer and Marty Fox back to share their feedback, suggestions and criticisms.
Week 1: Bathroom
For their first room reveal, the contestants’ mission was to create a bathroom that saw a team failing to finish the job while the winning team scored a point in the week.
team | Fraction | place |
House 1: Emma and Ben | 24/30 | 3 |
House 2: Hanhe can | 19.5/30 | 5 |
House 3: Britt and Tazz | 24/30 | 3 |
House 4: Sonny and Alicia | 25.5/30 | 2 |
House 5: Robbie and the mat | 26.5/30 | 1 |
Here is what the room reveals, what the judges want to say:
House 1: Emma and Ben’s bathroom reveal
Score: 24
The texture choice for the two was Shaynna’s immediate blow, noting that the room was inspired by the “rolling hills, mud and dirt” of Daylesford.

Darren describes it as a “biced cookie in the room” and loves natural light through Velux as well as green and tiles.
“The couple, Emma and Ben have a lot of experience, obviously they know how to deliver, so I do have high hopes,” he said.

However, all the judges did note the rough tiles on the curved pencil wall.
House 2: Han and Kan’s bathroom reveal
Score: 19.5
Darren’s initial observation of incomplete spaces calm, soft and balance, which is also positioned too high.

“If it’s an adult, it’s already tall, but the room next door is the kids’ room. It’s a bathroom shared by kids,” he said.
“So, it’s definitely a challenge for any child under 13.”
The industrial-style accessories on the shower screen aren’t Marty’s hit.

Shaynna advises the girls to look outwards in the home and say she doesn’t want them to feel defeated because it’s only the first week.
“It’s overwhelming, exhausting, and that’s OK to do the bathroom in your first week, but I want to point out to them that you’re never going to be fully tiled bathrooms in a cold environment,” she said.
House 3: Britt and Tazz’s Bathroom Reveal
Score: 24
While the height of vanity is wrong, judges like the team’s use of wallpapers, which show that floor tiles are not always required to be successful bathrooms.

Nickel Tapware tones and vertical handrails didn’t win Shaynna, and Marty didn’t like the size of the shower screen.

“I think it’s a nice bathroom, but it’s not very good. Where is Daylesford from a marketing standpoint?” he said.
House 4: Sunny and Alicia’s Bathroom Reveal
Score: 25.5
Darren’s reaction to designs in the “right direction” was “good pet”.

Shaynna again pointed out that vanity is too high, but despite Marty saying the space is suitable for Daylesford.
“The more I’m here, the more I like it,” he said.

Shaynna also criticized some flat ground issues, but she said the executions and plans of the two were strong.
The two won a $10,000 budget award.
House 5: Robbie and Matt’s winning bathroom reveal
Score: 26.5
Darren won a week’s victory, calling it “Goldilocks’ Room”.
“It’s everything we’ve worked in other rooms and it’s great to work together. I think the boys’ attractions are very good,” he said.

Darren said the tile layout and lines were perfect.
“It’s definitely the right direction. It shows that they have the gaze of detail and skill, and they do have a sense of style, and I think it does fit this house and this market,” he said.
