Homan hints Trump’s farm workers policy is coming

White House border Tsar Tom Homan said Wednesday that the Trump administration is considering possible changes to its immigration enforcement policy as it relates to farm and hotel workers.

In an interview with the news agency’s “Cuomo”, Homan said people in the White House were talking about various policy solutions and he hoped he would see the announcement sometime soon.

“I know the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Labor, the Department of Agriculture is talking about policy changes now,” Homan said. “I mean, the president’s commitment: There is no amnesty, but the White House is talking about a lot of smart people, is there anything farm workers?

“So, we’re going to see it appear,” he added. “But people are talking: Is there anything that can be done? I know they’re talking now. I hope it’ll come out soon, but we’ll see what’s going on.”

“I don’t want to be on what I think is coming or even coming, but I know people are talking,” Homan said.

Homan said Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will work to implement any policies adopted by the president’s decision.

“I’m not going to be ahead of the president, what will it be,” he said. “I can tell you: I’ve worked for six presidents… My job is to operate within the framework that the government has provided for me.”

Homan continued: “So if the president proposes a policy and says, ‘Well, that’s what we’re going to do with farm workers, then the ice will comply with that policy.”

The Trump administration has sent a mixed message to immigrant attacks that affect farms and immigrant farm workers.

Last week, Trump announced a new plan to support the agricultural industry, which complained to the White House about deportation efforts that ruined business. Many farms rely on immigrant workers, including those without legal immigration status.

Trump and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins did not provide “amnesty” at the time, and they emphasized it at the time, although they provided details on what the plan would do.

“There is no amnesty,” Trump said. “What we are doing is, we are getting rid of criminals, but we are doing a work plan.”

He then asked Rollins to explain the plan further, which she said would protect farmers and ensure they have the labor they need, but would not provide amnesty.

“We have to provide farmers with the people they need, but we are not talking about amnesty,” Trump added.

Earlier this month, Trump expressed respect for farmers hiring immigrants without legal status and said “they know better” in a speech at the “Salute to America” event in Des Moines, Iowa.

He also noted in his speech that his government is developing legislation that would allow some unauthorized immigrants to stay in the country and continue to work on farms.

Trump acknowledged last month that the concerns in the agriculture and hospitality industry were that his administration’s immigration enforcement has brought workers to key to these businesses, which has led to a pause in law enforcement on farms, hotels and other areas.

But a few days later, the government seemed to have reversed its course.
