The Senate is still focusing on Saturday’s procedural vote to push President Trump’s “big and beautiful bill.” After Democrats announced they would immediately seek to postpone their final pass.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.) will force Senate clerks to read the bill, a process that takes about 12 hours.
Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (RSS.D.) pointed out Friday that the voting schedule will change and called the initial vote “aspiring” as internal quarrels and parliamentary rulings have left people suspicious of its adoption by the July 4 deadline.
Many Senate Republicans, including Tom Tillis (NC), Ron Johnson (Wisconsin) and Rand Paul (Kentucky), have warned that they either vote not to push the bill forward or pass it last. Thune can only lose three votes.
Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley (R) became the first Republican reservation to announce that he would support the latest form of the bill, despite previous concerns about Medicaid’s in-depth layoffs. Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) said she would vote to take the measure, but said she would propose several amendments to change the bill.
At the White House, Trump chose to stay in Washington, focusing on helping Republican Megabele approach the finish line.
