This Glenroy townhouse became the first family dream, with an emotional farewell just adding $90k to the result.
A Glenroy couple brought their newborn son back to their home in Sunbeam St 6 and later built the backyard deck with the help of dad, who has sold their first home to Hammer for $640,000.
Matt and Shani Panopoulos, who owned two-bedroom townhouses for eight and a half years, were the first home buyers in 2017 for $580,000.
All five auction bidders on Saturday were also hopeful people for the initial homebuyers.

The young family is happy to see it as another buyer who started traveling.
“We bought it in the winter, brought my son home in the winter, and now we handed it over to it in the winter, it felt like a full circle moment,” Mrs. Panopoulos said.
Their favorite feature is the addition of a custom deck with Shani’s father, who comes with spare materials.
The lounge was comfortable and full of memories, and the couple brought their newborn son home one winter evening.
The open dining space flows seamlessly to the deck, perfect for weekday dinners and summer entertaining.
It becomes the second living area for the family.
“We were there in the morning for coffee, summer dinner and a little play area for my son,” she said.
“It’s a space that really becomes the center of our home.”
The second bedroom doubled as a home office during the Covid lockdown, with Parkland across the street becoming their daily retreat.
Stone countertops, smooth cabinetry and modern appliances provide young buyers with the functionality and gift of the kitchen.
Shani’s father helped build this open-air deck, a space for handmade coffee, barbecue and milestone moments.
“It’s perfect,” she said.
“We had nature to clear our heads right across the road and in the quiet places. I don’t think we realized we were really lucky until we really needed it.”
The couple has since been closer to the extended family, but said they would miss this quiet neighborhood street and a strong sense of community.
The bathroom is fully tiled and finished and offers a calm retreat with loose vanity and spacious layout.
“This is the perfect first home, easy to take care of, beautifully designed and in a great place to get close to everything,” Mr Panopoulos said.
“We were lucky to find it.”
Ray White Glenroy Agent Abdullah El Hosari handled the sale and said interest was strong from the start, and ended up soaring $90,000, above the $500,000-$550,000 price guide.
“There is no agency and it is well cared for,” said Mr. El Hosari.
The sun-lit living area is the heart of the house, from the lockdown, from the newborn hug to the quiet morning.
“You feel love and care when you walk in.”
Mr El Hosari added that limited supply in the winter market helped promote strong demand.
Ray White Victoria and Tasmania’s chief auctioneer Matt Condon sold the home under the hammer to the first buyer in front of a group of onlookers.
