President Trump spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday after two Israeli embassy staff were shot and killed outside the Jewish Museum in the capital of Washington on Wednesday night.
Police officials said the suspect walked into the museum and was arrested after he was arrested, and once arrested, he shouted “Free, Free Palestine.” The two victims were identified as Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim.
“They had a productive discussion. They discussed a lot of things, including the tragic shooting in Washington, D.C. last night,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
Levitt also noted that Trump was “sad and angry” about the shooting and spoke about the young couple at a daily White House press conference on the grounds that the embassy called them “Star Couples.”
“The evil of anti-Semitism must be radiated from our society,” Levitt said, adding that Attorney General Pam Bondi told her Thursday morning that the perpetrators would be prosecuted.
Trump expressed deep sadness at Washington’s shocking murder in Washington, two Israeli embassy employees, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim, in a call with Netanyahu, which is a blessing to memory.”
It continued: “The Prime Minister thanked President Trump and his administration for their efforts to combat anti-Semitism in the United States.”
Levitt said the two leaders also discussed Iran ahead of nuclear talks with the United States in Rome over the weekend.
Trump condemned the shooting earlier Thursday, saying the suspect’s actions were “apparently based on anti-Semitism” and called for an end to “hate and radicalism.”
Israeli leaders said Bondi was on the scene again Wednesday night and Thursday morning and also spoke with Netanyahu after the incident. According to Netanyahu’s office, she conveyed to him that Trump “has been involved in managing the incident and that the United States will bring the murderer to justice.”
Dan Bongino, deputy director of the FBI, said on social platform X that the subject is in custody and was interviewed last night. He added in another post that the penalties against shooters “will be demanding as we tighten this investigation and lower any other prospects.”
