Former New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu (R) said on Sunday that the Trump administration had “about six weeks” in terms of China’s tariff agreements to give markets and small businesses “confidence.”
“It sounds like they made some progress yesterday, but they have about six weeks to really give the market, and some of the small businesses don’t delay them.”
During the first months of his second term, Trump’s tariff policies were tense and rattled with trading partners such as China, Canada and the EU. Trump’s tariffs on China also increase fears of possible recession in the United States
On Friday, the president said he was willing to significantly lower tariffs on Chinese imports. Trump said in an article on his Truth Social Platform that China’s 80% tariffs appear to be the right number, significantly reducing import taxes on Chinese goods.
“China’s 80% tariff seems to be right! Reach Scott B,” Trump said in a post on Friday.
Trump also suggested that there might be a “all reset” in the U.S.-China trade relations when talks were held on Saturday at the Swiss tariffs between the two countries.
“There was a very good meeting with China in Switzerland today. Many things were discussed, very agreeable. The overall reset was negotiated in a friendly but constructive way. We hope to see that China has opened up American business for the sake of China and the United States. The president said in his post on his Truth Social Platform.
Sununi said on Friday’s CNN that the recently announced trade deal between the UK and the United States “definitely lays the foundation for some future agreements and the foundation for Trump’s trade administration.
