Melania Trump first looks at a new stamp in honor of Barbara Bush, although President Trump’s relationship with former first family members seems to be sticky.

“Barbara’s unwavering belief, dignity and (loyalty) have left an undeniable mark in our hearts and history,” the first lady said on Thursday. The image of Bush, the wife of the late President George HW Bush, was revealed publicly for the first time.

“Mrs. Bush’s legacy is in line with her respect for tradition, but also violates conventions,” Melania Trump said.

She added: “Although she is known for her literacy, she also supports empowering women, changing the nationwide AIDS dialogue and supporting the position of supporting gay rights.”

Barbara Bush, also the mother of former President George W. Bush, died in 2018 at the age of 92.

The images that will appear in the first-class stamps are from the 1995 “favorite” portrait of Bush by artist Chas Fagan. In this painting, Bush is seen wearing a “signature, multi-chain pearl necklace” and smiling.

There were some relatives among the attendees at the White House ceremony, such as daughter Doro Bush Koch, but several of the most prominent family members, including George W. Bush, were not watching in the East room.

A spokesperson for the former prime minister did not return an ITK request for comment before the incident.

Over the years, there has been significant tensions between President Trump and several members of the Bush family.

According to a 2019 biography of Barbara Bush, the former first lady once called Trump a “symbol of greed.”

Trump later said he hoped Bush would criticize one of her sons, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), during the 2016 Republican presidential primary.

“I heard she hates me, but she should be. Look at what I did to her sons,” Trump said of Bush.

In 2018, Trump criticized George W. Bush for his role in the fight against the United States.

A 2017 book quoted George W. Bush as saying that Trump had no idea what it means to be president. ”

The 43rd president did not recognize the candidate in the White House match between Trump and then-Vice President Kamala Harris last year.

But Bush Koch thanked the First Lady, saying: “We are very grateful for hosting us at the White House during this important moment.”

“The stamp perfectly captures mom’s calmness and dignity,” Bush Koch said in a review of her parents’ relationship.

Bush Koch quipped: “Mom is unlikely to portray herself on stamps, and there’s a good chance she wants to know the fuss about all this today.”

“But on behalf of my entire family, I can assure you that we are all very proud and grateful for this particular tribute.”

“The unveiling of this commemorative stamp is intended to honor Barbara Bush’s contribution as the First Lady and its lasting impact on our country,” Melania Trump said.

“May this tribute inspire us to act with compassion, power and uphold the values that guide us towards meaningful existence.”
