Revolut is one of the world’s leading financial superapps with millions of users, and announced a significant step in its cryptocurrency and payment products by establishing a new strategic partnership with Lightspark, a company specializing in the next-generation Bitcoin infrastructure.

The collaboration brings the next generation of Bitcoin infrastructure to the UK’s Revolut customers and selects the European Economic Area (EEA) country. Target? Eliminate slow transactions and high network fees by leveraging Bitcoin Lightning Network and cutting-edge tools such as Universal Currency Address (UMA). In short, Revolut is making BTC payments faster, cheaper, and more practical.

Revolut builds a reputation in speed, efficiency and provides users with more control over their financial situation. Now, with the help of LightSpark’s technology, it will develop further. By connecting to what LightSpark calls the “open currency grid”, Revolut joins an ecosystem of a growing number of fintech companies that adopt a new era of digital payments that is instant, borderless and more affordable than traditional systems.

LightSpark is led by David Marcus, former PayPal president, specializes in modern Bitcoin payment infrastructure. Its core mission is to replace outdated, bank-driven transaction systems with real-time, low-cost global payment tracks – traditional banks have long failed to deliver.

“Integration with LightSpark is a natural step,” said Emil Urmanshin, general manager of Revolut cryptocurrency. “We are always looking for ways to provide faster and more affordable financial solutions, and their global trading approaches to enable us to do that.”

David Marcus, CEO and Co-founder of Lightspark, emphasized the scale of the shift: “The future of money is real-time, low-cost, and borderless—exactly what Lightspark solves for. For too long, traditional banks have relied on outdated, slow, and expensive payment systems‌ — ‌akin to dial-up when the rest of the world uses 5G. In a world with a new, open Money Grid that enables instant, Seamless transactions, we are excited to see global fintech leaders like Revolut.”

Through integration with LightSpark, Revolut users will soon benefit from near-inherited Bitcoin payments, significantly reducing fees and seamless global transactions. The addition of UMA support further simplifies encrypted payments, making it as easy as sending emails.

This move cemented Revolut’s leadership in traditional and digital finance. By partnering with LightSpark, Revolut is not just keeping up with innovation, which plays a positive role in shaping the future of global payments. With faster, lower cost and borderless transactions, Revolut is helping to redefine the look of modern financial services.
