The original police station in Gerringong is intact with two original prison cells, looking for new owners to call it home for the first time in over 90 years.
Located at 89 Fern Street, Gerringong, the property served as the police station in the South Coast town of New South Wales from 1882 to 1933, and was then converted into a private residence.

The asking price for the estate listed home is $3.9 million.
Gerringong’s sales broker Angie Ritchie said the property has remained in the same family-Lees family since 1933, and the original owner’s grandson now lists it.
“They had some big renovations and they kept all the character features…it was so special,” she said.
“They have updated it, have modernized it and made it more modern, just keeping those character features, which is great.
“They renovated the bathroom, renovated the kitchen…the current lounge actually used to be a workout for the police station, so it was all covered, but the bars were still there but now become available space.”
Built from local sandstone, blue star and Australian red cedar, the house is a relic of the savvy craftsmanship of Australia’s past, with features from the internal period still intact, including original iron doors, iron rods, hardwood floors and fireplaces.
Once a prison cell is now a bedroom and home office.
Part of the particularity of the house is that for decades Passer-Bys will not know about their previous life.
According to the NSW Heritage Stock’s statement of significance, the residence is well known for its “fine, late nineteenth-century police station” which is “a great example of its type and period”.
It noted that the building was damaged in a storm in November 1926 and after it closed in 1933, police protected the nearby Kiama.
It was sold to the George Les for £500 as a private residence.
The wide front balcony is located on a 1474 m2 block with lush views of Werri Beach, headlands and surrounding mountains.
Ms Ritchie said the listing generated a large amount of buyer interest, ranging from being interested in its historic nature, buying it as a vacation home or creating a commercial business.
