Chris Krebs, a former Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) official, is leaving the private sector to challenge the Trump administration’s investigation.

Krebs said in an email Wednesday that he was “staying away from” cybersecurity company Sentinelone “effective immediately.”

“For those who know me, you know I won’t shy away from the tough fight. But I also know that this is something I need to fully accept – outside of Sentinelone. It will take my full focus and energy. It’s a fight for democracy, freedom of speech and the rule of law. I’m ready to give me everything I have,” the former CISA director later added.

Krebs, who insisted that the U.S. election was not compromised, opposed President Trump’s allegations in 2020, saying the election was fraudulent.

In a memo last week, Trump ordered an investigation into “Krebs’ activities as a government employee, including his CISA leadership” against Attorney General Pam Bondi and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

The president said in the memorandum that the investigation required finding “any instance” of the conduct of former CISA directors “appeared to violate the standards of suitability for federal employees” or “involving unauthorized dissemination of confidential information.”

“It’s about the government pulling leverage to punish dissatisfied people, pursuing corporate interests and corporate relations,” Krebs said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday.

He added: “This is the same thing we see in law firms, they’ve caught up with the license, they’re pursuing contracts. It’s a new and broad strategy they’re taking and should focus on everyone.”

The mountain has been contacted by the White House for comment.
