Trump is not a fascist, but an opportunity

U.S. President Donald Trump fits in with the “general definition of fascism” for his brief chief of staff, John Kelly. Mark Milley, chairman of Trump’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, believes he is “a core fascist”. Like many of the leading figures in the United States before and after, Kelly and Milley are not very familiar with fascist ideology. However, there is no doubt that they know Trump very well. Their warnings are shocking.

Less than two weeks after Election Day, Vice President Kamala Harris also went there. In a television speech, she announced that Donald Trump was even worse than a garden fascist. “The danger of Adolf Hitler by Donald Trump is very disturbing and incredible, and that man is responsible for the deaths of 6 million Jews and thousands of Americans. This is who Donald Trump is really, and that’s the one who knows him best.”

Fascism, especially its most radical form, Nazism – is still (about) more than just political slander. For scholars, fascism symbolizes things of history and still exists today. Even after Doyen’s study of fascist studies, Robert Paxton, even in this camp, had very few people who had a big idea after the chaos of January 6, 2021, “his objection to fascist record labels.”

These are important voices. But they misunderstood.

Fascists know Trump is not one of them

Since 1919, fascists have wanted a “new order.” One is purified by blood (ideally an enemy, but mart hard also works). Fascism is aggressive and propaganda. Masculinity and violence are less than the need. This is true since Benito Mussolini launched the first “Italian Fascist Combat Organization” (Italian battle pack) After World War II.

Most importantly, fascism is proud of the revolutionary right – despite some left-wing make-up. Any true central left is not boring. For them, this is treason.

Like liberals, socialists, and all other ideologies in the sun, fascists know their own. They are clear: Trump is not one of them. Once, they are right.

I should know because I wrote the first biography of fascism for Yale University Press.

Trump is not a fascist, and of course not Hitler. Instead, a better comparison with Franz von Papen. von Papen is the PM of Germany führer He took power in 1933 and led a slave “single-chip cabinet”. (Remember those billionaires Rex Tillerson, Betsy Devos and Steve Mnuchin?

Von Papen reversed the ban on Hitler’s brown shirt while fiddling around him, disbanded Germany’s largest state government (Prussia – imagine what happened in California) and gave Nazi access to the national broadcast network.

By then, the Nazis didn’t need broadcasts, and for a few years people enjoyed the glowing media coverage provided by news giant Alfred Hugenberg. The latter situation is replayed online every day before November 5, 2024.

But let’s go back to the future (and do it Part 2Since the 1989 film, it has been clearly modeled in Trump’s form.

Among fascists, believe it or not, there are different “faces”. A famous face is what the British government calls “self-guided terrorism”, as it does in Brazil, New York and New Zealand. This final terrorist is very concise to Trump:

As a symbol of a new identity and a common purpose? certainly. As a policymaker and leader? Dear God no.

At this point, he speaks to fascists around the world.

American fascists see Trump as an opportunity

What to do American Do fascists actually think of Donald Trump?

The first answer is “multiple things.” But their differences can be summarized simply. The further the extreme distance these democratic organizers are, the less likely they will be to support him. By contrast, the closer they are to their mainstream, or the more willing they are to forgive Trump’s alleged sins (owning Jewish children, enjoying the world’s narcissism, playing election “games”, and inconsistently embracing white super-super characters).

An American fascist simply said: “If you support Donald Trump, you are one Duke …This fight requires fanatics, not Reactionary, nostalgic Cowards are fixed for reform of hostile systems. “Trump will never be extreme and bloodthirsty for violent neo-Nazis.

Another key face of American fascism is related to elections, even if it is barely. Richard Spencer, the main mouthpiece of the Democratic Party, should have been “like 1933” after Trump’s 2016 victory. Within a year, they were carrying Tiki torches in Charlotteville, yelling “The Jews will not replace us!”

From the chaos and murders of the August 2017 weekend, a group of people revolved around the fascist symbol of the Americans: Patriot Front. They represent one of many political movements trying to break into the mainstream. In a scene that reminds of the Nazi “Winter Relief” (Winterhilfswerk) For those in need during the Great Depression, they were on the ground in hurricane relief efforts in North Carolina and elsewhere. For them, this is an open goal because few people are doing the job.

In short, the Patriot Front found that Trump’s bison was big enough to ride. The 400-team group didn’t portray their ideas until this month complaining about Trump’s campaign. Although their views on Trump (“strong support for Israel, racially blind and unrestricted legal immigration” as “restore America,” there is no doubt that they may be without a doubt after identifying the logo of “recycling America” in a recent campaign.

Like most American fascists, the American Liberal Party (and undoubtedly exists in every American country today) that transcend the American Nazi Party, electoral fascists have long seen “real opportunities for dialogue among people like Trump” in Trump. They may have a little bit in 2025, unlike every decade since 1945.

Ultimately, the brain’s fascists dubbed their project “Metapolitics” (for them, mind shifts must be done before a political shift). Their boundaries are widely supported. In 2015, a U.S. fascist website-turned seller claimed that while “Donald Trump is neither a traditionalist nor a white nationalist, he threatens the economic and social power of Jews in the world. For this reason, we may support his candidates only if Mr. Trump insists on deportation and restrictions on immigration.”

Six Years Later – The owner of the store, author, during Trump’s coup on January 6, 2021 White nationalists declarationsaid: “You started something… If we win, historians looked back at the recovery of the popular government in the United States (i.e., white supremacy), which would say it started with Donald Trump.” Among these possible fascist aristocrats, “Trumpism” represented a tiny flame that needed more gasoline – a lot of gasoline.

To sum up, the model is undeniable. Fascists see in Trump beyond the most racist and terrorist apocalypse Chance. This is something they haven’t had in nearly a century. There is no doubt that they plan to catch it. Expect the violence and other techniques of fascist trade in the coming months.

How do Americans respond?

Those who resist fascism’s response will be key. As for the 2024 presidential cycle, the instant mission is obvious: Yes, Trump needs to be defeated. But those who welcomed his like-minded possibilities as a Trojan must also be counted and fought back. There are too few signs today.

Ultimately, Trump is not a fascist, but a fascist. When the Patriot Front (or the Proud Boy, the III percentile, or any of the many I want centers) moves from hundreds to millions of supporters, only then can we realize that calling Trump “Hitler” or “fascist” is frivolous.

Of course, it was too late. It feels like we are there now, but we are not. Fascism is worse. Although Harris issued a good warning, exaggerating the problem only helps Actual Fascist. Between normalization and exaggeration, this is crucial to correct judgment.

It is rarely important to see fascism. Doing so means preparing for a long space that may start in the United States – but most people certainly won’t end. When the Weimar Republic was destined to be dull, democracy spilled out ink without the Democratic Party defending the Democratic Party.
