The team behind the infection is a speculative pandemic simulation game that recently gained the appeal of viral rates, announcing its decision to migrate from Ethereum’s Layer 2 network foundation to the Solana blockchain.

The announcement was posted through the game’s official X account. It cites the issue of Base’s inability to handle transaction volumes during the game release and is more concerned about the scalability of EVM-based chains.

Infected Ditch Layer 2 of Ethereum is for Solana

“The infected base crashed,” the team said, referring to the launch of the game, which attracted 130,000 registrations in 48 hours. Sudden demand has led to soaring gasoline prices and failed transactions, especially within the first 30 minutes.

According to the developers, this issue has greatly affected the momentum and user experience of the game. They described the event, and they pointed out that many users were unable to participate and subsequently gave up on the game, which ran on a 7-day cycle and relied on real-time interaction.

Although developers acknowledge that this issue is not unique to the foundation, they structure it as part of a larger, ongoing limitation in all EVM-compatible chains. Although previously believed to be the future of Ethereum scalability, the team said these bottlenecks are now viewed as structural and cannot be resolved in the near term.

The shift to Solana is also identified by the team as a driver of two key strengths: culture and user base. They contrast Ethereum’s technologically advanced but builder-centric ecosystem and Solana’s more user-oriented approach. According to the Post, Solana’s developer community is more aligned with current consumer behavior, which can be seen in the success of other Solana-Nenative applications such as pump.fun and daos.fun.

Furthermore, user feedback plays a role in the decision. The infected team said many players asked for a version of the game built by Solana to avoid the need to bridge assets. Post reading,

“If they were on XRP, we would go to XRP. If that was the main Bitcoin network, we would go there. But today’s users are on Solana.”

The team also stressed that their future games will also be launched on Solana, in line with their belief that the best available infrastructure for large-capacity, consumer-facing applications.

Jesse Pollak, head of base and Coinbase wallets, responded to the infected announcement, saying that despite respecting the team he built on any platform, he felt forced to clarify what he said was the factual inaccuracy.

“The base didn’t collapse—the chain followed.”

He wrote that the technical issues encountered during the infected launch were related to the front-end issues that the game team had previously acknowledged and discussed with the basics. However, the infected team denied the claim.

Meanwhile, Pollak added that the team behind Coinbase’s opening network reached out to the infection immediately after the migration announcement, but received no response.
